The Facts about Immigrants and Their Alleged Threat to ‘Good Americans’
President Trump and his rightwing, dare I say fascistic friends constantly complain about immigrants and their alleged criminality. Here is some AI aided research.
The figure of 13.7 million undocumented (or unauthorized/illegal) immigrants in the US aligns with recent estimates from sources like the Migration Policy Institute, which reported approximately 13.7 million as of mid-2023, reflecting growth from around 11 million in prior years due to factors like increased border arrivals and asylum seekers.
No official government source or comprehensive study provides an exact nationwide count of how many of these individuals have been “shown to be involved in criminal activity,” as this would require tracking every person’s criminal history (arrests, convictions, etc.)—data that isn’t fully centralized or publicly broken down by immigration status for the entire undocumented population. Being undocumented is a civil immigration violation, not a criminal offense in most cases.
Reliable research consistently shows that undocumented immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than US-born citizens, for both violent and nonviolent offenses. Key points from peer-reviewed studies and analyses include:
Multiple studies (e.g., from Texas data, the only state with detailed arrest/conviction records by immigration status) find undocumented immigrants have substantially lower felony arrest and conviction rates than native-born Americans. For example, US-born citizens are over 2× more likely to be arrested for violent crimes, 2.5× for drug crimes, and over 4× for property crimes compared to undocumented immigrants.
Incarceration rates provide a proxy: A 2023 Cato Institute analysis estimated undocumented immigrants had an incarceration rate of about 613 per 100,000 (roughly half that of native-born Americans at 1,221 per 100,000). This covers both violent and nonviolent crimes leading to imprisonment.
Broader trends show no evidence that increases in undocumented immigration raise overall crime rates; in fact, areas with higher immigrant populations often see declining crime.
Government data from ICE and DHS focuses on enforcement actions, not the full population:
ICE detention data (as of late 2025) shows a majority of detainees (often 70%+ in some snapshots) have no criminal convictions (many offenses among those who do are minor, like traffic violations or DUIs). Claims of high percentages of “criminal” arrests often include pending charges or immigration-related issues.
Border Patrol and ICE report arrests of “criminal noncitizens” (people with prior convictions, often from years earlier), but these are small numbers annually (e.g., thousands, not millions) and represent a tiny fraction of the total undocumented population.
Older estimates (e.g., from 2015) suggested around 820,000 unauthorized immigrants might have some criminal conviction (many minor), but this is outdated and not a direct measure of current “involvement in criminal activity.”
High-profile claims sometimes cite ICE’s “non-detained docket” figures (e.g., thousands with homicide or assault convictions on record but not in custody), but these are cumulative over years/decades, include foreign convictions, and don’t reflect active criminality among the broader 13.7 million.
In summary, while some undocumented individuals have committed crimes (as in any population), credible evidence indicates they are involved in criminal activity at lower rates overall than US-born citizens—for both nonviolent (e.g., property, drugs) and violent crimes. No data supports a figure where a large share (or even a notable minority) of the 13.7 million are proven criminals.
Why Pick on Minneapolis?
https://immresearch.org/publications/50-states-immigrants-by-number-and-share/
Minnesota’s share is roughly 100,000 to 130,000 out of 13.7 million to 14 million nationally.
This equates to approximately 0.7% to 0.95% of the total U.S. undocumented population.
Multiple reports explicitly note that Minnesota accounts for less than 1% of the nationwide total (e.g., Pew and related analyses describe it as a small fraction compared to states like California, Texas, and Florida, which host the largest shares).
What about ‘Felon’ Alex Pretti?
There is a video clip of Alex Pretti kicking out the REAR taillight of an ICE vehicle. A German friend of mine defends the ICE action because Pretti is a ‘Felon’. So, Pretti uses his foot to kick out the headlight of a vehicle. He didn’t attack ICE with his legal weapon, which was holstered. And ICE, acting as police, judge, jury and executioner shot him in the back 9 times after he’s already blinded by pepper spray and on his knees.
And then you wonder why Germany started two world wars, destroyed Yugoslavia and backs the fascist regime in Kiev.
Conclusion
This appears to be a fascistic provocation against a decidedly Blue, anti Trump state. We can characterize it as a new phase in ‘preemptive Color Revolution’. Provoke a population, blame it for insurrection in order to initiate mass repression. In addition, it risk far more serious civil conflict.
And meanwhile, while the population is engaged resisting government repression at home, the US is
Sending a huge ‘Armada’ (shades of the Spanish Armada that threatened England back in 1588?), to destroy Iran
Take Greenland despite the resistance of those people to US rule
Ongoing surreptitious support of Ukrainian Nazi regime to take down Russia while stealing Ukraine’s resouces
Providing weapons to continue genocide of Palestinians
Bombing a total of ten countries, none of whom pose any threat to the US
Class War At Home, Endless War Abroad
