Collective Unconsciousness: Recovering Historical Memory about US Presidents’ Assassinations and Rigged Elections
US Electoral Politics Explained in Two Minutes
Introduction
The purpose of this article is to awaken historical memory of our dysfunctional system of Presidential elections, and in extreme cases, of violent termination of Presidents who ‘don’t follow orders’.
Selective Prosecution
Has anyone ever noticed how Presidents or candidates that the other side doesn’t like get prosecuted on irrelevant stuff, while NOT prosecuting them on serious actual crimes? Nixon was forced to resign over the 3rd rate burglary at Watergate. Conspire to burglarize is certainly a felony.
But we all went out and demonstrated because Nixon bombed Cambodia, killing thousands of people…without authorization. That was both a US crime as well as a war crime. He wasn’t prosecuted for that.
Trump used a third party to pay off a hooker, falsifying financial records. which is a victimless crime. The horror of it!
But he was not prosecuted for
The premeditated murder of Iraqi and Irani Generals, on a trip for peace negotiations. The US is technically at least not at war with either country. But killing high ranking officials goes unpunished.
He also broke international law moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem.
He also has precipitated a replay of the Cuban Missile Crisis, by gutting the Intermediate Nuclear Forces treaty with Russia, putting nuclear capable launch pads within 10 minutes of Moscow. That is serious stuff!
Along with gutting the international agreement re Iran’s nuclear program.
Withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty.
Please explain to me why a victimless crime has got everyone all worked up, but the really serious Planet threatening stuff goes unnoticed. What the heck is wrong with the political consciousness of people in the US, both liberal and conservative, that makes a mountain out of a molehill, while being oblivious to the threat of nuclear war?
Screwing with US Presidents Is Fairly “Normal”
Four US presidents have been assassinated. While the circumstance of each death were different, at least two wanted to limit the influence of private bankers. Lincoln printed ‘Greenbacks’ to finance the Civil War. And Kennedy printed US government silver certificates, with the likelihood of expanding the money supply. See, the Federal Reserve Bank which is NOT a US government owned bank, lends money at interest which we people have to pay.
How dare they starve the banker parasites of their free money created out of thin air? As an aside, I hear that John Wilkes Booth shouted “Thus be it ever to tyrants!” when he shot Lincoln. Economics Historian Michael Hudson has pointed out that in ancient Greece, when wealth inequality became too great, rulers would break the wealth of the oligarchs, which resulted in the financial bloodsuckers calling them, perversely, “Tyrants”. A little ‘Dictatorship of the Proletariat’ perhaps?
James A. Garfield’s Murder
The ostensible reason for his murder was that a disgruntled supporter expected to be hired by the Garfield administration. When he wasn’t, he went crazy and killed the President. The consequence was that the US Civil Service apparently became more based on merit (The Civil Service Exam–which perhaps by coincidence, ancient China required of its government officials).
Political appointees and cronyism still exists in the US, but at least there is a semblance of hiring based on qualifications.
William McKinley’s Murder Is Less Clear
McKinley displeased serious people.
McKinley’s jurist approach to the sinking of the Maine undoubtedly infuriated Hearst since the California plutocrat was hell-bent on a war with Spain to launch an American empire. Hearst most likely never forgave McKinley for wanting to determine the cause of the sinking of the USS Maine before declaring war on Spain since America’s industrialists caused the explosion in the first place as we described in a previous blog posting.
At the other end of the economic spectrum, McKinley faced severe criticism for being in the pocket of the plutocrats. So intense was antipathy toward McKinley that he was the subject of at least 200 death threats during 1898.
Another perspective likewise indicates that McKinley just wasn’t imperialist enough.
McKinley ended a 20-year-long economic depression that started in 1873, the longest in American history. He was pulled reluctantly into war with Spain and into annexing the Philippines but was strongly opposed to any further moves towards empire.
Anyway, he was killed by an anarchist. So it’s kind of a paradox, that he was an anti imperialist friend of plutocrats.
Eugene Debs: Running for President from a Jail Cell
So, about half the people in the USA are glad to know that Donald Trump may end up wearing an orange jump suit (to go with his hair color?). And half are so pissed, that they’re sending his campaign for President tens of millions of dollars.
But, did you know that we actually had a candidate who had to campaign from jail? And the reason: He advocated peace during WWI.
https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/eugene-debs-canton-ohio/
Eugene Debs made his famous anti-war speech in Canton, Ohio, protesting World War I, which was raging in Europe.
For this speech he was arrested and convicted in federal court in Cleveland, Ohio under the war-time espionage law. He was his own attorney. His appeal to the jury and his statement to the court before sentencing are regarded as two of the great classic statements ever made in a court of law.
He was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison.
He was sent to prison for speaking the following, which I am including in part because it is just as relevant in 2024 and it was on June 16th, 1918. What’s worse, he was a Socialist! [sarcasm]
They have always taught and trained you to believe it to be your patriotic duty to go to war and to have yourselves slaughtered at their command. But in all the history of the world you, the people, have never had a voice in declaring war, and strange as it certainly appears, no war by any nation in any age has ever been declared by the people…..
…the working class who fight all the battles, the working class who make the supreme sacrifices, the working class who freely shed their blood and furnish the corpses, have never yet had a voice in either declaring war or making peace. It is the ruling class that invariably does both….
Yours not to reason why; Yours but to do and die.
That is their motto and we object on the part of the awakening workers of this nation.
So, Donald Trump, a billionaire with questionable ties to other billionaires, may go to prison for paying off a hooker. And Eugene Debs, a real advocate for peace, and moreso a socialist, who fought his whole life for the people, had to run his Presidential campaign from prison.
The Strange Case of Franklin Delano Roosevelt
FDR was an interesting anomaly. On the one hand, the Delano wing of the family made its money in the opium trade in China, not exactly an ethical way to make a living. The Roosevelt wing was wealthy but not like the Rockefellers. However, FDR was certainly a capitalist.
His election at the height of the Great Depression resulted in a number of major reforms, such as the formation of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to protect investors, as well as the Glass-Steagall Act, which discouraged bank speculation. Bill Clinton revoked Glass Steagall Act, which probably was a factor in the 2008 Financial Crash.
His reforms made enemies. He nearly succumbed to a fascist coup cooked up by some disgruntled capitalists. The New York Times wrote an article which said,
“It also alleged that definite proof had been found that the much publicized Fascist march on Washington, which was to have been led by Major. Gen. Smedley D. Butler, retired, according to testimony at a hearing, was actually contemplated. The committee recalled testimony by General Butler, saying he had testified that Gerald C. MacGuire had tried to persuade him to accept the leadership of a Fascist army.”[48]
And here is this little gem, courtesy of the BBC and Wikipedia. They tell the truth sometimes, I guess.
Prescott Bush[edit]
In July 2007, a BBC investigation reported that Prescott Bush, father of U.S. President George H. W. Bush and grandfather of then-president George W. Bush, was to have been a “key liaison” between the 1933 Business Plotters and the newly emerged Nazi regime in Germany,[51] although this has been disputed by Jonathan Katz as a misconception caused by a clerical research error.[52] According to Katz, “Prescott Bush was too involved with the actual Nazis to be involved with something that was so home grown as the business plot.”
Isn’t it nice to know that maybe Prescott Bush was too busy financing German fascists to bother getting rid of Roosevelt?
Just in case you’re wondering what kind of people actually run our country. Behind the scenes. By the way, while the whole treasonous plot was proven, nobody went to jail. Indeed, after WWII, Prescott Bush became a Senator, instead of going to a detention camp, which fate befell the Japanese Americans.
The Democratic Party Insider Coup Against Henry Wallace
Henry Wallace was enormously popular with the American electorate. He was second only to FDR himself. In response to the imperialist vision of Henry Luce, the Founder of Time Magazine, called for The American Century. Henry Wallace called for the Century of the Common Man.
Wallace redefined the role of Vice President, taking on genuine leadership in the Roosevelt Administration’s preparations for World War II. But his time as Vice President is perhaps best remembered for the ideals he championed in his most celebrated speech. In 1942, in the middle of World War Two, he rejected Life Magazine publisher Henry Luce’s famous call for an “American Century” and other calls for America’s domination of the postwar world.
Instead, Wallace urged that “the century on which we are entering can and must be the century of the common man.” He warned against unfettered free enterprise and “international cartels that serve American greed” and said they “must be subjected to international control for the common man, as well as being under adequate control by the respective home governments.”
To Luce’s notion of American exceptionalism, he declared: “There can be no privileged peoples. We ourselves in the United States are no more a master race than the Nazis.”
Unfortunately, the corrupt leadership of the Democratic Party undermined his reinstatement as Vice President. At the last moment, when Senator Claude Pepper of Florida was about to nominate him in what would have been a landslide vote in his favor, the Chairman of the Convention blocked him, just 5 feet away from the podium and declared the meeting an end.
As a result, we got Truman, an ignorant and suggestible nobody, who agreed to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, mainly, as was learned later, to threaten Joseph Stalin at the Potsdam Conference in 1945.
Instead of cooperation with the USSR to dispense with European colonialism, Truman chose anti Soviet policies, which have resulted ever since (with a few years of detente with the USSR and its successor, the Russian Federation) in the Cold War, the anti Communist hysteria of Joe McCarthy, the Hollywood Blacklist, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the crushing of unions and labor rights, and endless wars and coups, since 1945.
A total tragedy, all engineered by that fateful ploy to deny Henry Wallace the nomination, which would have resulted in his succeeding Franklin Delano Roosevelt!
Was Roosevelt Assassinated?
If you search in Google, you will get various stories about an attempted assassination of Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt at their historic meeting in Tehran. On this both Western and Russian sources agree. The Soviets even made an exciting spy story movie out of it, introduced by the two main youthful characters in the Soviet counter intelligence, who disrupted the plot, in 2007, a couple in their 80’s or older when the movie was made. Try copying and pasting to watch it.
Tehran 1943–How Soviet Teenagers Foiled Hitler’s Plot to Kill FDR, Churchill and Stalin in Tehran

Here is the Youtube Short but the movie is a lot better!
More disconcerting is the possibility that Roosevelt may have been poisoned. Stalin was able to save Roosevelt’s life once, but maybe not a second time. The noted US Army officer, Fletcher Prouty, told the story here:
I had heard, while in Tehran, that Roosevelt and Churchill had had a strenuous argument in front of Stalin and Chiang during the conference on the subject of decolonialization of South East Asia. I have read it in a government publication of the time. Then, this account of Elliott’s visit to Moscow in 1946 was written and signed by him and appeared in the February 9, 1986 issue of the nationwide Sunday Supplement magazine “PARADE.”
I don’t know whether any of you ever realized this, but years later the fact that Elliott Roosevelt had gone to the Tehran conference brought up one of the most amazing untold facts in our history. I can only imagine why more had not been written about it.
Because Elliott had met Stalin in Tehran with his father in 1943, in late 1946, Gardner Cowless, publisher of LOOK magazine asked him to go to Moscow to interview Stalin.
Roosevelt accepted this offer and did interview Stalin there. At the end of a long interview, he turned to the Generalissimo and asked one more question, “Why is it that my mother has never been permitted to visit Moscow even though she has made three very formal applications for the trip?”
Stalin glared at Elliott and said, “You don’t know why?”
Elliott replied, “No!”
Quickly, Stalin responded, “Don’t you know who killed your father?”
Roosevelt-shocked-answered, “No.”…….
Stalin took a few steps around the office, and almost in a rage roared, “They poisoned your father, of course, just as they have tried repeatedly to poison me.”
“They, who are they,” Elliot asked
“The Churchill gang!” Stalin roared, “They poisoned your father, and they continue to try to poison me…the Churchill gang!”
So the West agrees that Stalin saved Churchill’s and Roosevelt’s life. But, curiously Google searches don’t bring up this story by Fletcher Prouty, whom we’ll hear about further on regarding the other US President ‘they’ assassinated.
The Most Famous and Consequential Assassination: JFK
John F. Kennedy was the most famous and consequential assassination, along with the assassinations of Lincoln and the likely assassination of Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was rather unlikely as such a candidate to be ‘taken out’, because he came from a wealthy, well connected family. However, he apparently made a lot of enemies.
Here is an abbreviated list of motives for his murder:
JFK issued executive order # 11110 which essentially disempowered the Federal Reserve System. This international crime syndicate is a private banking cartel with no reserves and is not federal, since its owners are more foreign than domestic.
JFK vowed to shut down the CIA shortly after the failed Bay of Pigs operation. The CIA is the granddaddy of all black ops and psyops around the world. Cuba was ruled by dictators who tolerated Cuba’s brothels and casinos owned by US gangsters. By refusing to invade and ‘give’ Cuba back to the gangsters, he made more enemies with the Mob.
JFK was implementing plans to end the Viet Nam War.
JFK adamantly opposed Israel’s plan to develop nuclear weapons.
JFK was proceeding with plans to reveal highly classified information regarding the truth about UFO’s and the Alien Presence on Planet Earth.
JFK issued a direct warning to all Secret Societies operating on US soil. The Illuminati was not pleased! By taking concrete measures to expose their secret agendas and clandestine operations.
JFK’s brother and US Attorney General, Robert F. Kennedy, launched an unprecedented war on organized crime, and particularly against the NYC, New Orleans and Chicago mob families.
JFK inherited the most intense foreign policy hotspot known as Cuba, as well as the CIA’s intention to assassinate Fidel Castro. The Cuban Missile Crisis had broad ramifications for his presidency, as well as for the Cold War. His decision-making independence throughout the crisis, especially his use of personal surrogates and unconventional process, would not be tolerated. However, it was the Bay of Pigs (BOP) fiasco and the withdrawal of Air Force support from the operation which turned the CIA against him for good.
JFK took up the torch of civil rights in a way that no other President did throughout the 20th century. His embrace of the Civil Rights Movement drew close to him many who would try to sabotage his efforts “by all means necessary”….. just as southerners murdered Abraham Lincoln post Civil War.
JFK had very serious and powerful enemies in the form of Lyndon B. Johnson, George H. W. Bush, Richard N. Nixon, J. Edgar Hoover, Allen Dulles, Dean Acheson, as well as the British Crown whose intentions were well known by his ambassador father, Joseph P. Kennedy. The entire global power structure, particularly the US Military-Industrial Complex……
Plus, these:
JFK secretly negotiating with Castro and Khruschev.
Selling the USSR wheat on credit.
Signing an order to abolish the oil depletion allowance.
But what must have been the final straw was Kennedy’s American University Speech, where he called for an end to the Cold War and the danger of Secret Societies
Since then, with such a blatant action, future presidents undoubtedly feel constrained. There is a standing ‘joke’ that every President on Inauguration Day, is taken to the White House basement to watch a movie of JFK in the car, being shot. After the movie, the President is asked, “Any questions”?
The 1968 Multiple Election Fiasco
The 1968 election was stolen, not once, or twice, but 3 times:
The assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, JFK’s brother and close advisor
Chicago Mayor Richard Daley suppression of peace demonstrators outside the Chicago Democratic convention, and his suppression of support for anti war candidate, Senator Eugene McCarthy
The treasonous sabotage of Vietnamese peace negotiations by Richard Nixon, to undermine Democratic candidate Hubert Humphrey
Opposition to the Vietnam War was growing in 1968, resulting in President Lyndon Johnson deciding not to run. Senator Eugene McCarthy decided to run as the anti war candidate against presumed Democratic Party insider favorite, Hubert Humphrey, and old line party man, one might say, a party hack. Uninspiring and unlikely to make any of the real changes needed.
When McCarthy showed surprising strength in early primaries, Robert F. Kennedy decided to throw his hat into the ring. While some have felt that his move was opportunistic, he did have some real positives.
The Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy
https://www.voltairenet.org/article165721.html
The assassinations of RFK and JFK were both conspiracies. Both involved the destruction of evidence. Both involved the fabrication of evidence. Both involved framing their patsies. Both involved complicity by local officials. Both involved planning by the CIA. Both were used to deny the American people of the right to be governed by leaders of their own choosing.
Bobby, JFK’s Attorney General, was aggressively cracking down on organized crime. Jack was going to reform or abolish the Federal Reserve Bank (Fed) and, perhaps most of all, he was going to shatter the CIA into a thousand pieces. Lyndon wanted to be president of all the people and J. Edgar Hoover wanted to stay on as Director of the FBI. No one could have explained all of this as well as has James Douglass [58].
The policies he represented would have brought about significant change in the distribution of wealth and power, which they were unwilling to accept [59]. Once committed to the crime, they were intent that no one should ever pay for it, lest the public learn the truth about the institutions of their own government. When Bobby allowed that he was going to use the powers of the presidency to uncover the truth about his brother [60], it sealed his fate. And the lies continue.
The assassination of RFK completed the decapitation of the left wing in the United States, which had begun with the termination of JFK’s presidency but continued with the gunning down of Malcolm X, who was the most progressive voice on the far left. With the deaths of Martin Luther King (April 4, 1968) and Robert F. Kennedy, the country shifted strongly to the right, in part from the despair induced by the loss of inspiring leaders
Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s Suppression of Peace Demonstrators, and His Suppression of Senator Eugene McCarthy
These are excerpts from an interview that Senator McCarthy gave in 1996. They are recorded in the National Archives. While of course events like this are not so easy to boil down, these quotes from McCarthy himself say a lot about the state of US Democratic Party politics in 1968, and look a lot like they do nowadays:
INT: What significance would you attach to his assassination in June 1968?
EM: Well, it ended the campaign. There wasn’t much you could pick up. Because his people, as it turned out in Los Angeles, about half of them went directly over to Humphrey. They were not really against the war, they were for Kennedy. They’d have been for him if he’d been for invading China. And it meant that the strength that we would have had on the issue of opposition to the war, about a third of it was lost when he was assassinated, it’s just as a matter of counting. But it dispirited everyone. And it just kind of took the whole… Actually, he’d pretty well deadened the campaign as an anti-war campaign,
INT: What about Mayor Richard Daley: what place does he occupy in your memory?
EM: Oh, he was no surprise to us, you know. Worse than the violence in the streets, the Daley stuff was what the party on the inside did to the principles and actually the rules and precedents of party procedure: taking delegates they didn’t have a right to, and denying delegates that we had a right to, trying to kind of control the score so it would look good. In my mind, that had a much more serious impact on the Party, on the Democratic Party and politics than the stuff that went on in the street, which was… understandable. The inside stuff wasn’t.
I personally saw police swinging truncheons outside the convention hall, but fortunately was far enough away to not experience “democracy in action”.
This sounds a lot like what happened to Bernie Sanders in 2016.
The Treasonous Sabotage of Vietnamese Peace Negotiations by Richard Nixon
https://consortiumnews.com/2015/03/13/lbjs-x-file-on-nixons-treason-2/
This scandal is actually two scandals in one. Back in the day, we used to call Richard Nixon, “Tricky Dick”. So, it’s 1968. Even Lyndon Johnson, who ramped up the war after JFK was assassinated, realized that the whole thing was a mess (kind of like how wars in Afghanistan, Iraq went and now Ukraine are going).
So he told the public that he would not run for President, and he tried to initiate peace talks with both the South Vietnamese government and with the North Vietnamese. However, he got wind of the fact that Nixon and his team were telling the South Vietnamese to stall and stop cooperating with the proposed peace talks, promising ‘a better deal’ with a Nixon administration.
Nixon was effectively undermining international negotiations for political gain, which seems treasonous. However, LBJ found out about it, confronted Nixon, who denied it—that is, he lied. So that is the first scandal.
The second scandal was that LBJ realized that the whole sordid mess would make the US government itself look bad. So the whole sleazy affair was hushed up. Treason was allowed to go unpunished. Just like the 1934 plot against Franklin Roosevelt. Just like the plot against Henry Wallace.
Oh, and did I mention that at the end of WWII, Allen Dulles, the chief of intelligence stationed in Switzerland, made contact with the Nazis behind FDR’s back, in total violation of the agreement between the US, UK and USSR, not to negotiate a separate peace?
Treason, it seems, is just too embarrassing to let the American people know just how dishonest and venal the people at the top actually are.
Treason #1: Nixon Interfered in Peace Talks which He Had No Right to Do
“…national security adviser Walt Rostow received the first indication that Nixon might actually be coordinating with Thieu to sabotage the peace talks. Rostow’s brother, Eugene, who was Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, wrote a memo about a tip from a source in New York who had spoken with “a member of the banking community” who was “very close to Nixon.”
The source said Wall Street bankers at a working lunch to assess likely market trends and to decide where to invest had been given inside information about the prospects for Vietnam peace and were told that Nixon was obstructing that outcome.
“The conversation was in the context of a professional discussion about the future of the financial markets in the near term,” Eugene Rostow wrote. “The speaker said he thought the prospects for a bombing halt or a cease-fire were dim, because Nixon was playing the problem to block.
“They would incite Saigon to be difficult, and Hanoi to wait. Part of his strategy was an expectation that an offensive would break out soon, that we would have to spend a great deal more (and incur more casualties) a fact which would adversely affect the stock market and the bond market. NVN [North Vietnamese] offensive action was a definite element in their thinking about the future.”
A separate memo from Eugene Rostow said the speaker had added that Nixon “was trying to frustrate the President, by inciting Saigon to step up its demands, and by letting Hanoi know that when he [Nixon] took office ‘he could accept anything and blame it on his predecessor.’” So, according to the source, Nixon was trying to convince both the South and North Vietnamese that they would get a better deal if they stalled Johnson.
Johnson continued: “I think it would shock America if a principal candidate was playing with a source like this on a matter of this importance. I don’t want to do that [go public]. They ought to know that we know what they’re doing. I know who they’re talking to. I know what they’re saying.”
Treason #2 The Johnson Team Didn’t Tell the American People
“Some elements of the story are so shocking in their nature that I’m wondering whether it would be good for the country to disclose the story and then possibly have a certain individual [Nixon] elected,” Clifford said. “It could cast his whole administration under such doubt that I think it would be inimical to our country’s interests.”
“On the question of the ‘public’s right to know,’ Sec. Rusk was very strong on the following position: We get information like this every day, some of it very damaging to American political figures. We have always taken the view that with respect to such sources there is no public ‘right to know.’
Or, to put it bluntly, the American people have no right to know that their country is run by traitors and crooks.
So, the Democrats protected Nixon who basically stole the election from LBJ. That would not be the first time, as we shall see, that the Democrats caught the Republicans stealing elections, and let them get away with it.
And the Consequence
From the start of Nixon’s presidency in 1969, the U.S. participation in the Vietnam War continued for more than four years at horrendous cost to both the United States and the people of Vietnam. Having allegedly made his secret commitment to the South Vietnamese regime, Nixon kept searching for violent new ways to get Thieu a better deal than Johnson would have offered. Seeking what he called “peace with honor,” Nixon invaded Cambodia and stepped up the bombing of North Vietnam.
In those four years, the war bitterly divided the United States, as anti-war protests turned increasingly confrontational; parents turned against their children and children against their parents; “hard-hats” attacked “hippies”; Nixon baited one group of angry protesters with his “V” for victory sign and called other protesters “bums”; four students were gunned down at Kent State.
The Reagan Campaign “October Surprise”
While Nixon was forced to resign over the Watergate break-in during the 1972 campaign, the lesson that the Republicans learned was that meddling in elections and getting away with it is a great way to get elected.
That brings us to the 1980 election between President Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan. Carter was in trouble, especially because Iran had overthrown the US installed puppet, the Shah of Iran. Students occupied the US Embassy in Tehran, and Carter was trying to negotiate the release of 52 hostages. Had he been able to do so, his campaign chances would improve. But a Republican plot to delay their release came about. It was only minutes after Reagan was sworn in, that the hostages were released. A too curious coincidence.
Again, from Robert Parry’s article:
After all, if Nixon could get away with sabotaging Vietnam peace talks when half a million U.S. soldiers were in harm’s way, what was the big deal about upsetting President Jimmy Carter’s negotiations to free 52 U.S. embassy employees then held hostage in Iran? And if the Democrats eventually did get wind of any GOP-Iran hanky-panky, what were the chances that they would hold anyone accountable?
Wouldn’t these Democrats be just as susceptible as Johnson’s team was to appeals that telling the whole sordid tale wouldn’t be good for the country? The Democrats had even taken a strange sort of pride in keeping these dirty Republican secrets secret.
As it turned out, Democrats did show the same reluctance to seriously investigate allegations of Republican interference in Carter’s hostage negotiations with Iran as they did regarding the Nixon campaign’s sabotage of Johnson’s Vietnam peace talks.
“… the Republican Party had muscled its way back into power once more, via the tainted election in 2000 and the latest GOP president, George W. Bush, was marching the United States into another destructive war behind another smokescreen of lies and distortions, in Iraq.”
https://consortiumnews.com/2013/03/07/october-surprise-and-argo/
…..former Iranian President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr has provided new details about how Ronald Reagan’s 1980 campaign obstructed resolving the Iranian hostage crisis to prevent President Jimmy Carter’s reelection.
Bani-Sadr said he and all other major candidates for the Iranian presidency supported releasing the hostages. He noted that after taking that position, he won the election with 76 percent of the vote….. However, after becoming president on Feb. 4, 1980, he found his efforts to resolve the hostage crisis thwarted. Bani-Sadr said he discovered that “Ayatollah Khomeini and Ronald Reagan had organized a clandestine negotiation, later known as the ‘October Surprise,’ which prevented the attempts by myself and then-U.S. President Jimmy Carter to free the hostages before the 1980 U.S. presidential election took place. The fact that they were not released tipped the results of the election in favor of Reagan.”
And the Consequence of Reagan’s Treason
President Reagan’s team undermined negotiations for an early return of US hostage, causing them needless suffering. But it’s what happened after that that was a disaster.
At home, he drastically cut taxes on the rich and corporations, resulting a dramatic rise in US national debt, which is eating us alive and getting worse.
He defeated the Unions, exported jobs to China, Mexico and other low wage countries, which ruined the working class
He started the deindustrialization from an industrial economy that makes things, to a financialized economy that makes money from money for the rich.
He came close to starting a nuclear war with the Soviet Union (fortunately, the peace movement knocked sense into his head to stop that madness.)
He accused small countries like Nicaragua of planning to invade Texas, and justified slaughtering civilians using the mercenary army called the Contras, skirting the Congressional Boland Amendment that cut off such aid.
He oversaw the arms for drugs racket that resulted in the Iran Contra affair, a major scandal that should have resulted in his being jailed
So it’s crimes on top of crimes…but that’s just ‘business as usual’.
Sidenote: Have Nazis had any influence on the Republican and/or Democratic Parties
During the 1988 Presidential race between George HW Bush and Michael Dukakis, stories arose regarding “Eastern European Nazis” on Bush’s campaign staff. Embarrassed, Bush fired them. But this was no minor indiscretion. Fact is, Nazis escaping from their defeat in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries have been supported both in the US and in their respective European countries for years.
This article, based on a thoroughly researched book with first hand interviews with such characters talks about it in detail. It was written in 2014, shortly after Democrat Joe Biden gave the ‘OK’ to diplomat Victoria Nuland to carry out the coup, which emplaced the current Nazi regime in Kiev.
https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/seven-decades-nazi-collaboration-americas-dirty-little-ukraine-secret/
“As the Ukrainian crisis has unfolded over the past few weeks, it’s hard for Americans not to see Vladimir Putin as the big villain. But the history of the region is a history of competing villains vying against one another; and one school of villains—the Nazis—have a long history of engagement with the United States, mostly below the radar, but occasionally exposed, as they were by Russ Bellant in his book Old Nazis, the New Right, and the Republican Party (South End Press, 1991). Bellant’s exposure of émigré Nazi leaders from Germany’s World War II allies in the 1988 Bush presidential campaign was the driving force in the announced resignation of nine individuals, two of them from Ukraine, which is why he was the logical choice to illuminate the scattered mentions of Nazi and fascist elements among the Ukrainian nationalists, which somehow never seems to warrant further comment or explanation. Of course most Ukrainians aren’t Nazis or fascists—all the more reason to illuminate those who would hide their true natures in the shadows…or even behind the momentary glare of the spotlight.
In fact, the US connections to them go back to World War II, and the United States has had a longstanding tie to the OUN, through the intelligence agencies—initially military intelligence, later the CIA.
When Nixon ran for president in 1968, he made a promise to these leaders that they would—if he won the presidency, he would make them the ethnic outreach arm of the Republican National Committee on a permanent basis, so they wouldn’t be a quadrennial presence, but a continuing presence in the Republican Party.
One of their 1984 booklets praised the pro-Nazi Ustashi regime in Croatia; these Ustashi killed an estimated 750,000 people and burned them alive in their own camp in Croatia. And here they are praising the founding of this regime, and acknowledging that it was associated with the Nazis, and it was signed by the chairman of the Republican National Committee.
So, the issue of World War II was still being played out over four decades later, in the politics of the presidency, and unfortunately Bush and Reagan continued to be on the side that we defeated in World War II.
…the Republican Party was extreme on this, but the Democrats folded and didn’t challenge this when they knew it was going on.
So now you know why Zelensky got a standing ovation in the US Congress, why they wave the Ukrainian flag when they pass billions of dollars to the Ukraine regime, and why at the 80th anniversary of D Day, the Allied invasion of France on June 6, 1944, they invited Zelensky, who sides with Nazis against Russia, while disinviting Putin, whose country fought bled and died fighting them.
The 2000 Election Fraud and Theft
In 2000, the two candidates were George W. Bush, son of the former President and CIA director, George H W Bush, and Al Gore, son of a famous Senator and then Vice President under Bill Clinton, who’d just successfully survived an impeachment for having sex with an intern in the Oval Office.
Overlooked by the powers that be were Clinton’s other ‘dalliances’. To name a few:
Inciting the Nato illegal war against Yugoslavia, which destroyed that country
Presiding over destruction of vital infrastructure—Water, electricity—and Iraq sanctions that blocked vital medicines and other supplies that resulted in the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children. His Secretary of State, Madeline Albright, when asked if the sanctions were justified with such a tragic result, replied, “We think the price is worth it”.
Dismantling of the Glass Steagal Act, which opened the floodgates for rampant speculation, which resulted in the 2008 financial crash
Destroying a factory in Sudan, which manufactured that country’s medicines, while slanderously claiming it was making chemical weapons
Al Gore was a very middle-of-the-road Democratic Senator, before becoming Vice President. He’s well known for his film about Global Warming, “Inconvenient Truth”. While he lived in a huge energy sucking mansion.
I was working for the Green Party, whose candidate, Ralph Nader, had fought corporate greed and crimes for decades. On the night of the election, a reporter asked me why voted for Nader.
I said, “With Gore, it will be like a frog in water, brought to a slow boil. With Bush, the American people will get burned.”
What an amazing coincidence that 10 months later, 3 World Trade Center buildings would vanish in suspicious collapses, reminiscent of the 1933 German Reichstag Fire, which enabled the Nazis to commandeer the government and plunge the country into endless war.
A Partial List of Electoral Violations and Controversies

Let’s take a trip down the memory hole for this February, 2001 study by the then sometimes reliable BBC.
2000 Election Theft Part I
The 2000 U.S. presidential election was marked by several irregularities and controversies, particularly in Florida. Here is a detailed list of these key issues:
Voter Purge:
Many African American voters were erroneously purged from the voter registration lists in Florida. The state had contracted a private company to remove felons from the voter rolls, but the process was flawed, leading to thousands of eligible voters being incorrectly labeled as felons and thus ineligible to vote.
Ballot Design Issues:
The “butterfly ballot” used in Palm Beach County was confusing, leading to many voters unintentionally voting for the wrong candidate or casting invalid votes. This design led to a significant number of “overvotes” and “undervotes.”
Hanging Chads:
The use of punch-card ballots resulted in many ballots with incompletely punched holes, known as “hanging chads.” These partially punched ballots led to disputes over whether they should be counted.
Missing Ballot Boxes:
Reports emerged of ballot boxes going missing or being mishandled, raising concerns about the integrity of the vote count.
Black Box Voting Machines:
The term “black box voting” refers to the use of electronic voting machines that lacked transparency and verifiability. Concerns were raised about the accuracy and security of these machines, though the specific impact in the 2000 election remains debated.
Republican Party Operatives Disrupting Vote Count:
Known as the “Brooks Brothers riot,” Republican operatives and staffers, some in business attire, staged a protest at the Miami-Dade County canvassing board, disrupting the recount process and creating a chaotic environment.
Supreme Court Involvement:
The U.S. Supreme Court intervened in the election in the case of Bush v. Gore. The Court’s decision to halt the Florida recount effectively awarded the state’s electoral votes to George W. Bush, securing his victory. The decision was highly controversial, and the Court did not sign the opinion, which led to further debate over the ruling’s legitimacy.
Al Gore’s Acquiescence:
Despite the contentious nature of the election and the various irregularities, Al Gore ultimately conceded to George W. Bush following the Supreme Court’s decision. Gore emphasized the importance of national unity and the need to respect the rule of law.
Subsequent Analysis and Media Reports:
Several months after the election, The New York Times published an analysis that suggested Al Gore would have won the state of Florida if all the disputed ballots had been counted. However, this post-election analysis did not change the outcome, and George W. Bush remained in office as the President of the United States.
These irregularities and controversies contributed to a highly disputed election outcome, leading to widespread debates over electoral processes, voting rights, and election integrity in the United States.
And the Consequence of Bush’s Stolen Election
My prediction came true. The World Trade Center in New York City was attacked. Three high rise office buildings came down in both fire and massive explosions. National hysteria and war fever. The infamous PATRIOT ACT, modelled after the Nazi German Enabling Act, which seriously damaged civil liberties.
And of course, ongoing war, massive increase in national debt, homelessness, drug addiction, general social breakdown, increasing mental health problems, distrust of the government, media and other public institutions.
Adding Insult to Injury: Bush/Cheney Steal the 2004 Election
When Bush won the State of Ohio, in a fishy election, where the Secretary of State, who counts the votes, was also Bush’s campaign chairman, the Green and Libertarian Party opened a lawsuit, but the courts dismissed it, since John Kerry, who should be the plaintiff, refused to join the suit. So there are two conflicts of interest:
Kerry and Bush belong to the same secretive fraternity, whose founder was involved in the China opium trade, and both Kerry and Bush refused to discuss the Skull and Bones Society.
The Secretary of State in Ohio, who counts the votes, was also the Bush campaign chairman
As the saying goes, it doesn’t matter what the vote count is, it’s who counts the votes.

Ohio polling results impossible to swallow: Given what happened in that key state on Election Day 2004, both democracy and common sense cry out for a court-ordered inspection of its new voting machines.

Skeletons in the Closet
While at Yale University, both John Kerry and George Bush joined an elite secret society, the Order of Skull and Bones. How might their lifelong allegiance to the club affect their relationship – and political decisions?
“It’s so secret we can’t talk about it,” said Bush. Kerry’s reply was even more opaque. “I wish there were something secret I could manifest there,” he said.
2016, The Bernie Sanders Debacle, Russiagate, the Rise of Donald Trump

The 2016 U.S. Democratic Party presidential primary election contained three scandals.
The proven fact that Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee deliberately sabotaged the campaign of Bernie Sander, who was known for his standing for universal health care “Medicare for All”, Student loan relief and free college education, and more social justice.
When the emails were discovered, Hillary Clinton, rather than taking responsibility, instead cooked up allegations that Russia hacked the emails. If true, why didn’t the main stream media thank Russia for revealing a serious problem in the US electoral system? However, despite months and years of the “Russia hacked Hillary’s emails” trope, the charges were in fact conclusively refuted.
It didn’t help that a DNC staffer, Seth Rich had been shot in cold blood, and no serious investigation followed. However, because he was disgruntled about the Clinton campaign’s treatment of Sanders, circumstantial evidence suggested that he delivered the emails via his thumb drive through an intermediary to Wikileaks.
Allegations of Campaign Sabotage
One of the most significant controversies involved allegations that Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) deliberately sabotaged Bernie Sanders’ campaign. Leaked emails, published by WikiLeaks, suggested that the DNC leadership favored Clinton and took steps to undermine Sanders. This perception of bias and unfairness within the party led to accusations that the primary process was rigged, causing deep divisions among Democratic voters.
The Email Scandal
Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State became a central issue of the 2016 campaign. An FBI investigation was launched, and the situation was further complicated by the release of hacked emails from the DNC and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta. These emails revealed internal campaign strategies and discussions, which were damaging to Clinton’s campaign.
False Claims of Russian Interference
Notably, former NSA computer science expert William Binney and former CIA officer Ray McGovern argued that the emails could not have been hacked remotely, but were likely downloaded locally. Their analysis suggested that the transfer speed of the leaked data indicated it was more consistent with a local download onto a thumb drive than a remote hack.
https://consortiumnews.com/2017/09/20/more-holes-in-russia-gate-narrative/
“We stand by our main conclusion that the data from the intrusion of July 5, 2016, into the Democratic National Committee’s computers, an intrusion blamed on “Russian hacking,” was not a hack but rather a download/copy onto an external storage device by someone with physical access to the DNC.
That principal finding relied heavily on the speed with which the copy took place – a speed much faster than a hack over the Internet could have achieved at the time – or, it seems clear, even now.
Further complicating the narrative, CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity firm hired by the DNC to investigate the breach, later admitted in congressional testimony that they had no concrete evidence to support their initial claim that Russia was responsible for the hack. This revelation, along with investigative reporting by journalist Aaron Maté, who extensively debunked the accusations against Russia, added to the controversy and confusion.
The Murder of Seth Rich
The unsolved murder of Seth Rich, a DNC staffer, added another layer of intrigue. Rich was killed in Washington, D.C., in July 2016, in what police described as a botched robbery. However, conspiracy theories emerged suggesting that Rich was the source of the leaked DNC emails and that his murder was related to his alleged role in the leaks. These theories were fueled by reports that the police refused to investigate his death thoroughly and that the contents of Rich’s computer were suppressed. Although these theories have been widely questioned, the unresolved nature of his death continues to be a point of speculation.
The Election Itself
In recent years, Presidential elections have become controversial, to say the least. 2016 saw two highly polarizing candidates, Hillary Clinton, who certainly alienated the Bernie Sanders faction of the Democratic Party. This, plus her cavalier assumption that voters in key states like Wisconsin didn’t even deserve a visit, resulted in her losing in key states.
Ever the narcissistic personality that she is, she refused to accept responsibility for her poorly run campaign against Donald Trump. That, plus the Trump vote as protest phenomenon, as well as Trump voters becoming almost cultlike in their devotion and faith in Trump resulted in Clinton’s loss.
The Consequences of the 2016 Primary Election Fiasco
All these scandals within the US political system have been an assault on the political consciousness in the American people, which has resulted in increasing cynicism and alienation.
Even Bernie Sanders, who could have fought back, has discredited himself as ‘a sheepdog’ to herd wayward voters back to the Democrats and then do a bait-and-switch.
The toxic Russophobic accusations of meddling are even more absurd when the influence of the Israeli lobby and the invitation of the Israeli President Netanyahu to address Congress and get 29 standing ovations show the corruption of the US political process. Yet, that problem is simply not allowed to be discussed. Many liberals take it as a given that Russia meddled in the election, while overlooking the undue influence of Israel and even Ukraine itself.
The 2020 Election Controversy
This election, held in the wake of the Covid crisis, resulted in lots of teeth-gnashing. The ‘official consensus’ is that Joe Biden won the election, and that Donald Trump’s accusations aside, the election was free and fair.
Nonetheless, the unusual way in which large numbers of mail in ballots marked a difference from usual voting methods, plus the general alienation and distrust of the government in general has resulted in at least a third of the US public believing that the Democrats stole the election.
Conclusion
The US electoral system is plagued with problems from top to bottom, as shown in case studies in this article. Popular candidates that oppose Empire are either sidelined by the media, sabotaged by the Party hierarchy, slandered in the press with real or contrived scandals, or in extreme cases, killed.
What’s more, various studies show that the top 1% who finance the campaign and pay the lobbyists get 99% of the policy input. The USA is a defacto Oligarchy, as shown by this study:

Does public opinion affect the political process? Gilens & Page found that the number of Americans for or against any idea has no impact on the likelihood that Congress will make it law.
